During the monsoon season, leaks in the roof made life quite miserable for the students of the Parikshit Lal Ashramshala school at Manav Sadhna, a nonprofit organization located in the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, India. The Bhupat & Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), with help of the local community, volunteers, and workers, helped Manav Sadhna’s build a new roof for the school. Many children in slum communities drop out of school to support their families. As an alternative, children in the Earn and Learn program spend four hours a day at a Manav Sadhna facility, where they attend an hour of class, receive a nutritious meal, and get paid for working for two hours making gift bags, greeting cards, and other simple crafts.
