Mehta Rice Engineering Scholars Program Opens Doors

Students in the inaugural cohort accelerate research and develop professional networks.

In April 2023, Rice University’s George R. Brown School of Engineering and the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation launched the Mehta Rice Engineering Scholars Program to promote collaboration between Rice engineering faculty and Indian universities. The program facilitates academic exchange for Indian students, allowing them to spend three to six months at Rice University working alongside faculty members. Two Ph.D. students from the 2023-24 inaugural cohort, Sikandar Bind and Srilekshmi Muraleedharan, shared their experiences and the benefits of participating in the program. The program supports research in various fields, including quantum science, advanced materials, energy and sustainability, data science and artificial intelligence, and bioengineering and biological sciences. The Mehta Rice Engineering Scholars Program aims to foster research synergies directed by Rice host faculty based on their current resources, while providing Indian students with valuable professional and cultural experiences.
