IIT Kanpur inaugurates Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine

Centre is spearheading biomedical engineering innovations

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) inaugurated the Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM) with the objective of facilitating breakthroughs in biomedical engineering innovations.

The centre had been set up with the generous support of Rahul Mehta of the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), and was formally inaugurated on November 6, 2023 with a two-day inaugural symposium. It brings together researchers and scientists to collaborate for research at the convergence of engineering and medicine.

Dr Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science & Technology presided over the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. Rahul Mehta shared his vision for the centre, which is dedicated to propelling the next generation of healthcare innovation, and fostering collaboration between various engineering and medical disciplines……

IIT Kanpur launches new centre for engineering in medicine

IIT Kanpur has set up the Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM) with the support of Rahul Mehta of the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF).

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has launched the Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM) to facilitate breakthroughs in biomedical engineering innovations. The centre has been set up with the support of Rahul Mehta of the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF). A two-day inaugural symposium was also held during the launch of the centre.

The symposium, as per an IIT Kanpur statement, discussed nano-medicine and genome editing-based approaches for disease therapies, and application of digital medicine in decoding how the brain gets reprogrammed under diseased conditions such as Alzheimer’s, among others.

The institute claims that the primary goal of MFCEM is to foster in the field of biomedical engineering. This centre was established through the support of Rahul Mehta, representing the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation (MFF). On November 6, 2023, it was formally inaugurated during a two-day inaugural symposium. The centre serves as a collaborative hub, bringing together researchers and scientists to explore the intersection of engineering and medicine, according to an official release.

The symposium featured captivating presentations by leading global experts in three key research areas within MFCEM: Molecular Medicine, Regenerative Medicine and Digital Medicine. Recognising the rapid progress in the realm of digital medicine, the second day of the symposium was dedicated to a session covering various research aspects in this field, the release mentioned.

Bangalore : The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur inaugurated the Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine with the objective of facilitating breakthroughs in biomedical engineering innovations. The centre had been set up with the generous support of Mr. Rahul Mehta of the Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation, and was formally inaugurated on November 6, 2023 with a two-day inaugural symposium. It brings together researchers and scientists to collaborate for research at the convergence of engineering and medicine.

IIT Kanpur Establishes a Centre for Engineering in Medicine

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has established a Centre for Engineering in Medicine.

Rahul Mehta from Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family foundation has supported the establishment in a two day long event. The inauguration event took place on 6th November 2023. The initiative will help in research and innovation in the field of engineering and medicine.

The major topic of discussion at the symposium was Nano medicines and genome editing. These approaches will help in tackling several diseases, help in therapies, and understanding of how brain works in the case of diseases such as Alzheimer.

There were experts present in the symposium. They all give presentations featuring the benefits of combination of engineering and medicine. The major discussion topics were

  • Research and analysis in the area of Molecular medicine.
  • Research and analysis in the area of regenerative medicine.
  • Research and analysis in the area of digital medicine.

On the first day, the proceedings commenced with a keynote address by Dr. Gang Bao, the Chair of Bioengineering at Rice University. Dr. Bao expounded upon the applications of nanomedicine and genome editing for disease therapies. Soon afterwards, the Aurobindo Nath Bose Entrepreneurship Lecture was delivered by Dr. R. Venkataramanan of Karkinos Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., a technology-driven oncology platform, with a focus on Molecular Medicine in Oncology practice.

Recognizing the rapid advancement of digital medicine, the second day of the symposium dedicated a session to the diverse research areas within this field. Dr. Shankar Subramaniam of UCSD delivered the keynote address, delving into the application of digital medicine in deciphering how the brain undergoes reprogramming under conditions such as Alzheimer’s.
