Expert in Biomaterials, Stem Cells, and Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Shyni Varghese is a leading biomedical engineer and researcher with appointments in the Duke University Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, and Orthopedic Surgery. She is also the first MEDx Investigator at Duke MEDx, an initiative created by the Pratt School of Engineering and Duke School of Medicine to strengthen collaboration between medicine and engineering.
An internationally recognized expert in biomaterials and stem cell research, Dr. Varghese focuses on musculoskeletal tissue repair, disease biophysics, and organ-on-a-chip technologies. Her research combines engineering, materials science, and regenerative medicine to develop innovative approaches for studying disease and advancing tissue engineering. Dr. Varghese earned her PhD from India’s National Chemical Laboratory in 2002 and has built a distinguished career at the intersection of biomedical engineering and translational medicine.
