Dr. Rajesh K. Gupta

Leader in Data Science, Embedded Systems, and Cyber-Physical Computing

Dr. Rajesh Gupta is the founding director of the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute and Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California San Diego (UC San Diego). He also holds the Qualcomm Endowed Chair in Embedded Microsystems and the INRIA International Chair at the French International Research Institute in Rennes, Bretagne Atlantique.

A globally recognized researcher in embedded systems and cyber-physical systems, Dr. Gupta’s work focuses on sensor data organization, distributed computing, optimization, and large-scale analytics. He currently leads the NSF-funded MetroInsight project and serves as co-PI of the DARPA/SRC CONIX initiative, which aims to develop next-generation distributed cyber-physical systems using city-scale sensing data for intelligent services and autonomy.

Dr. Gupta has received numerous honors, including the IEEE Computer Society W. Wallace McDowell Award, IEEE TCCPS Distinguished Leadership Award, National Science Foundation CAREER Award, and multiple research and industry achievement awards. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, the ACM, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Gupta has held several influential editorial and advisory roles. He served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Design & Test of Computers and founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Embedded Systems Letters. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems.
